On the 3rd December, Anna Mann presented findings from the Ambizione-Projekt «(Im-)Possibilities of Letting Life End» at the Research Breakfast of the Chair for Palliative Care and Supportive Care at the CHUV.

This year's Robert K. Merton Award is given to Marco Giesselmann (SUZ), David Brady (University of Southern California), and Tabea Naujoks (Universität Rostock) for their paper on «The Increase in Refugees to Germany and Exclusionary Beliefs and Behaviors», published 2024 in the American Journal of Sociology.

A new analysis of PISA 2022 data from 73 countries shows that having a growth mindset, which means believing that abilities can develop with effort and practice, has only a minimal effect on achievement differences. It accounts for about 3 percent of the socioeconomic gap in academic performance. This means that mindset plays a very minor role, and changing students’ beliefs on its own will not substantially reduce educational inequality.

The University of Tokyo Market Design Center names Simon Jantschgi as one of three Rising Star in Market Design. As a winner of the award, he holds an online workshop on «Competitive
Combinatorial Exchange» on December 1st, at 1:00 am CET (Switzerland). Congratulations!

Luca Chiapperino's talk plunges into the moral paradox of the epigenetic study of the developmental origins of health and disease: a science born out of evidencing structural, life-course determinants of multigenerational health effects which are routinely translated into individualized parental behaviour change and controversial maternal responsibilities.
