Marco Giesselmann, David Brady, and Tabea Naujoks win the 2025 Robert K. Merton Award

The Robert K. Merton Award for the best paper in analytical sociology is an annual award of the INAS (International Network of Analytical Sociology).

Prof. Dr. Marco Giesselmann (SUZ), Prof. Dr. David Brady (University of Southern California), and Dr. Tabea Naujoks (Universität Rostock) are the recipients of this year's award for their paper The Increase in Refugees to Germany and Exclusionary Beliefs and Behaviors, published in the American Journal of Sociology.

Prof. Dr. Marco Giesselmann is Lecturer and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Sociology at the University of Zurich. His research is devoted primarily to the impact of institutions on individual living conditions. Publications include articles and textbooks on poverty and low-wage work, on the economic consequences of critical life events, and on the methodology of longitudinal data analysis.

Prof. Dr. David Brady is Professor at Price School at the University of Southern California. He also is Visiting Research Professor in Inequality and Social Policy at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. He teaches classes in policy analysis, quantitative methods, poverty, inequality, and social policy. He investigates a variety of research questions related to poverty, racial inequality, social policy, health, and immigration.

About

Dr. Tabea Naujoks is a Research Assistant at the Insitute of Sociology and Demography at the University of Rostock. Her research focuses on the division of labour in couples, gender inequality, and the labor market.
