Für seine Bachelorarbeit «Familien fördern, Mütter bremsen? Die Kehrseite der Kinderzulagen» erhält Simon Raphael Honegger den UZH Semesterpreis. Seine Arbeit analysiert die unbeabsichtigten arbeitsmarktbezogenen Effekte der Einführung des Familienzulagengesetzes (FamZG) 2009 auf die Erwerbstätigkeit von Müttern. Buchvorstellung: «Rethinking Democracy – Demokratie neu denken» am 10. Dezember mit Hanno Scholtz
Das alte Modell der Demokratie funktioniert nicht mehr: Die Welt hat sich verändert. Populisten nähren sich von der intensiven Polarisierung rund um Kriege, wachsender Ungleichheit und dem nahenden Klimakollaps. In seinem neuen Buch «Rethinking Democracy» zeigt PD Dr. Hanno Scholtz sein Konzept der zivilen Demokratie, welches das Augenmerk weg von der Konkurrenz der Eliten, hin zur Stärkung der Bürger als Entscheidungsträger verlagert. Damit zeichnet er eine mutige neue Vision und Strategie für den globalen Wiederaufbau der Demokratie im 21. Jahrhundert.

Of trauma, triggers and ADHD: Thanks to the digital attention economy, mental health is being destigmatized, shifting from being a highly personal matter, to becoming a subject of public discussion. In her talk, Laura Wiesböck explores how platform mechanics are shaping society’s approach to mental health in which common emotional experiences become blurred with clinical diagnoses, and pathologization and commercialization are on the rise.

We are happy to welcome Dr. Andrea Ghisletta as postdoctoral researcher in the team of the Swiss Job Market Monitor!
Andrea’s research leverages SJMM’s rich job vacancy dataset to study labor market dynamics. His work applies quasi-experimental methods to examine societal questions, such as the consequences of incarceration and the role of self-interest in voting behavior.

On Ocotber 30, the SUZ will hold its 2024 General Assembly. Welcomed is everyone who belongs to the Department of Sociology, from students to lecturers and staff members. This year, the “Departmental Teaching Prize” will be launched and a small standing lunch is offered afterwards.
