SUZ Teaching Prize 2025: The winners
Congrats to the winners of the 2025 «Department of Sociology Teaching Prize»!
Winners:
First runner-up:
- Malte Döhne for the module «Markt, Macht, Moral» (FS25)
Second runner-up:
- Isabel Raabe for the module «Digital Sociology» (HS25)
On the Tag der Lehre (UZH Teaching Day), our Department assembly traditionally takes place. This year, the first «Department of Sociology Teaching Prize» 🏆🎓 award ceremony was held.
The SUZ Teaching Award was introduced as a motivation for the junior faculty to aim for high quality teaching and also to experiment with new teaching formats, while improving their further career progression.
It is a direct opportunity for sociology students to evaluate and reward high quality and innovative teaching, as The Teaching Prize is awarded for a specific teaching course that has been given and successfully evaluated.
Possible candidates were lecturers employed by the department during HS24 and FS25, with no permanent position at the department (no regular professors, no “Privatdozierende”, no external dozents).
The jury, which consisted of two members of the student association SoFa, study program director Prof. Dr. Jörg Rössel and department director Prof. Dr. Katja Rost, evaluated the submissions by appraising the general quality of the courses, the excellence in teaching, as well as the degree of innovativion.
The department is delighted to have received such high quality submissions.
Thank you for all who participated and congratulations to our winners!
Vollversammlung - General assembly
Our annual general assembly also saw:
- a fun «Student or AI?» quiz guessing game organized by our student association SoFa, where members of the ATP ruled the leaderboard,
- an update by Alexander Ehlert about the newest efforts made by the junior faculty to launch more cross-chair collaborations,
- a presentation by director Katja Rost about future measures to be introduced against language discrimination at the department,
- a gathering to enjoy a delicious apéro by Tibits afterwards.
