To mark the occasion, the SUZ is presenting you a multi-part podcast on the history of the institute and sociology in Zurich. The Sociology Alumni Chapter invites you to the premiere on September 8! The main event is held in German.

Premiere Podcast - 60 Jahre Soziologie in Zürich

Das Soziologische Institut (SUZ) feiert dieses Jahr sein 60-Jahr-Jubiläum. Wir blicken auf eine bewegte Geschichte zurück, die bereits vor 1966 ihren spektakulären Lauf nahm und bis in die Gegenwart spannend bleibt. Die Forschungsschwerpunkte und die Studierenden und Forschenden dahinter standen und stehen immer im Spiegel der Zeit. Das macht unsere gemeinsame Faszination für die Soziologie aus. Zum Geburtstag schenkt euch das SUZ einen mehrteiligen Podcast zur Geschichte des Instituts und der Soziologie in Zürich. Mit der Realisierung wurde die SUZ Alumna und Journalistin Christina Caprez und die Sounddesignerin Christina Baron beauftragt. In den vergangenen Monaten wurden zahlreiche Interviews mit Zeitzeug:innen, Lehrenden und Emeriti geführt. Viele Soziolog:innen schauen auch als Alumni gerne auf ihre Studienzeit zurück.

Jetzt sind wir bereit, diese Dramaturgie mit euch zu teilen: Wir laden zur Premiere ein.

Wir hören Ausschnitte aus den Episoden untermauert mit unterhaltendem Bildmaterial und diskutieren über die Soziologie in Zürich. Warum tragen alle Alumni sie im Herzen?

Auf dem Podium erwarten wir Thomas Held, SUZ-Student der ersten Stunde und Verfasser der aufsehenerregenden Studie «Die Stellung der Frau in Familie und Gesellschaft» (1974), Eva Mey, Migrationssoziologin am Institut für Vielfalt und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe der ZHAW, Marc Herkenrath, Entwicklungssoziologe zwischen Universität und Zivilgesellschaft. In Anwesenheit weiterer Podcastprotagonist:innen und nach Begrüssungsworten der Institutsdirektion (Katja Rost, Jörg Rössel), moderiert Christina Caprez, die auch das Making-Off des Podcasts direkt einfliessen lassen wird.

Nach der Premiere lädt das Alumni Chapter Soziologie zu einem Apéro in der Mensa ein und freuen uns auf bunte Plaudereien.

Premiere Podcast - 60 Years of Sociology in Zurich

The Department of Sociology (SUZ) is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. We look back on an eventful history that began its spectacular journey even before 1966 and remains interesting to this day. The research priorities—and the students and researchers behind them—have always reflected the spirit of the times. That is what fuels our shared fascination with sociology. To mark this anniversary, the SUZ is presenting you with a multi-part podcast on the history of the institute and sociology in Zurich. SUZ alumna and journalist Christina Caprez and sound designer Christina Baron were commissioned to produce the series. Over the past few months, numerous interviews were conducted with contemporary witnesses, faculty members, and emeritus professors. Many sociologists, even as alumni, look back fondly on their time as students.

Now we’re ready to share this story with you: We invite you to the premiere.

We’ll listen to excerpts from the episodes, accompanied by entertaining visual material, and discuss sociology in Zurich. Why do all alumni hold it so dear?

On the panel, we look forward to welcoming Thomas Held, one of the very first SUZ students and author of the groundbreaking study “The Position of Women in Family and Society” (1974), Eva Mey, a sociologist of migration at the ZHAW’s Institute for Diversity and Social Participation, and Marc Herkenrath, a sociologist of development working at the intersection of academia and civil society. With other podcast participants in attendance and following opening remarks by the institute’s directors (Katja Rost, Jörg Rössel), Christina Caprez will moderate the discussion and will also incorporate behind-the-scenes footage from the podcast’s production.
