Sarah Berkinshaw is a PhD student in the subproject "Human Reproduction in Societies and Markets" of the URPP "Human Reproduction Reloaded" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marco Giesselmann and Dr. Benita Combet since 2024.

She studied sociology and political science at the University of Zurich, where she worked as a student assistant in the sub-project "Inequality, group identities and political demands" of the URPP "Equality of Opportunity" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Silja Häusermann, in a project on the promotion of political participation of young adults in vocational training with Prof. Dr. Lucas Leemann, and at the chair of Prof. Dr. Jörg Rössel.

Her research interests lie in the investigation of inequalities based on social background and gender, as well as in analysing social and especially educational mobility. In her dissertation, she is investigating the causes of gender segregation in education and on the labour market, with a particular focus on the influence of family values.
