FAQ

A research project raises many questions that we would like to answer here. A major concern of ours is not only that the results of the study are widely disseminated but also that the research process and its implementation are transparent.

Who was selected for the survey?

We want to provide a realistic, comprehensive, and detailed description and analysis of intergenerational relationships in Switzerland. This is only possible if the survey participants are selected entirely at random. The addresses were drawn at random from the Federal Statistical Office's (FSO) Random Sample Register. The legal basis is section 13c(2) of the Ordinance on the Collection of Statistical Data (SR 431.012.1).

Who are we?

We are a research group of the Institute for Sociology at the University of Zurich. All members of the research group have been involved in studying intergenerational issues for many years. We have already conducted a number of research projects, published books and many articles, lectured and given interviews on the subject. More detailed information on the research group as well as our résumés and publications can be found here: www.suz.uzh.ch/ages

Who is supporting the research project?

The research project is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) and the University of Zurich.

What happens to the data?

The collected data are analyzed scientifically in an anonymized form. Beyond that, the data will be stored electronically at the Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences (FORS) and thus be made available to science for non-commercial purposes.

Where will the results be published?

The results of the project will be published in various forms. Swiss intergenerational reports for the interested public will be prepared in book form, and scientific articles will be published. Additionally, we will present summary findings on this website, and the project team and others will also be available for media interviews.
