Beat Fux
Beat Fux’s research activities focus on international comparative analysis of structural change at the family and household level and comparative research in social and family policy.
Three projects have been completed in the first area of research:
1) The project Forecast of Regional Differences in Family and Household Structures provided for the first time dynamic projection models for the development of household structures in Switzerland.
2) The project Advancement of Female Labor Market Participation based on Projections of Household and Family Structures was carried out as part of the research program in preparation of the 12. AHV-Revision (12th amendment of the Swiss national pension scheme) and puts the household projections to practical use.
3) The Swiss Federal Statistical Office commissioned the project Household and Families to describe and systematically analyze family and household structures and their development based on the population censuses from 1970 to 2000. Population Policy Acceptance Study – The Viewpoint of Citizens and Policy Actors Regarding the Management of Population Related Change (Fifth EU Framework Programme) is a project related to the second main research area above. Participation in this joint venture, on the one hand, involves developing a multi-dimensional typology of welfare state regimes for 43 Western and Eastern European countries. On the other hand, a qualitative Delphi-survey was conducted within the interdisciplinary research network aimed at assessing expert views on scope for further development of the welfare state.
The Gender and Generations Programme (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe – UN-ECE) intends to continue the coordinated and standardized series of family and fertility surveys for all of Europe.
