Zurich PhD program in sociology
A corporation between UZH and ETH

In cooperation with sociologists of the ETH Zurich the SUZ offers an attractive and internationally competitive PhD program for sociologists.

The program covers scientific writing workshops, publishing workshops, research colloquia, thesis workshops, proposal writing workshops and didactic workshops.

Concerning the choice of courses our program offers PhD students high individual discretion. Current regulations for doctoral studies at the SUZ require 12 ECTS points.

Scientific Writing

Basic academic writing skills and designing research for scholarly publication

Publishing

How to publish in high ranked international journals and how to deal with R&R’s, participation in workshop with editors and invited guests.

Research Colloquium

State-of-the-art research of invited scholars

Thesis workshop

Participation and paper presentation in the SUZ/ETH two-day seminar of the professors of the SUZ/ETH

Proposal writing

Write research proposal in the form of a SNF/ERC project or similar funding

Didactics

A choice of modules from the didactics competence center

 

The PhD program in sociology receives financial support from swissuniversities and the Graduate Campus of the University of Zurich.

Please note that method courses are not included as we expect PhD students to posses knowledge in research methods. Both, the University of Zurich and the ETH of Zurich offer excellent opportunities for further training in specific, advanced methods. We proceed on the assumption that students will use these services.
